Q&A - TOM WATSON - FLOGO
In this edition we speak with Tom Watson, owner of Flogo, who sell a collection of quality organic clothing and accessories in Landgate, Rye.
Tom founded Flogo in 2022, with a Be in the Moment philosophy with his apparel designed to inspire awareness, connection and adventure.
The visuals draw from water & flow inspiration (windsurfing, lakeside lifestyle) rooted in their location near the coast. Flogo is a community that embraces the wind chasers, snow seekers, wave riders and everyone in between.
Earlier this year Flogo opened in Brighton, a natural extension to his shop in Rye.
Q&A
Great to chat Tom. Obviously, I want to talk Flogo with you, but let’s start with wine; Can you remember the first wine you ever tasted?
I have 3 older sisters so there was plenty of wine around when I was a kid! I’m not sure if Babycham counts? There might have been some dodgy port going around too!
Can you remember the first bottle of wine you ever bought?
Probably a warm bottle of Blossom Hill from Thresher, carried to a park in a paper bag & drank out of paper cups.
What’s the latest news from Flogo?
We’re really excited to share that we’ve launched our crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube, giving our community the opportunity to become owners of the brand & help shape the next chapter of Flogo. We can’t wait to open it up for everyone that’s supported us so far.
What are your plans for 2026?
Loads of cool stuff happing for Flogo next year! We are relocating our office to www.ryewatersports.co.uk & setting up a shop- to run from Spring through to Autumn. It's a great spot where we have wild swimming, paddle boarding, windsurfing, sailing, wingfoiling, kids camps, an Aquapark.. & a great cafe on site. This coincides with celebrating 40 years since my mum Margaret set the watersports school. We also have a few events planned & will be having a pitch at Boardmasters festival.
What is the wine that you’ve had that you feel has been your favourite wine ?
I think that a lot of the experience of wine is the company and where you share it. I can think of a 5-euro bottle of Cote de Rhone that I’ve drunk camping in France that I've enjoyed more than a super expensive Claret. A Rully comes to mind though, a lovely white Burgundy
What would your favourite meal be and what wine would you have with it?
For the Burgundy, ice cold on a hot day - Some fresh fish cooked on a BBQ by the beach, a squeeze of lemon & crack of salt. For the 5 Euro Cote de Rhone another Barbie, some thick sirloin nicely seasoned medium rare after a day on the water.
